Summer 2022, the kids and I built a 4-player arcade cabinet. We’ve still got some work to do to finish the cabinet, but over 3 or 4 weekends we were able to:
- Get the electronics built and connected
- Getting a Raspberry Pi connected to power
- Properly connecting EG Starts Joysticks to your Raspberry Pi
- Cut out the top of the cabinet and drill holes
- Measure twice, cut once your cabinet top
- Circumference strikes again – drilling joystick holes
- Play the Simpsons game to prove it all worked
- Getting arcade software onto the Raspberry Pi
- ROMs and configuring your emulator
- Paint the cabinet black
We still need to:
- Cut out the rest of the cabinet, and fit it together
- Paint the remainder of the cabinet
- Run a red trim over the edges
- Reinstall the electronics
Then there is the debate over whether it will just be the cabinet, or whether we’ll build the full arcade. As of today, we’re going to stop at just the cabinet though 🙂
