It’s quite different being in New York on 9\/11 versus anywhere else. Our office looks at the new Freedom Tower – which I keep calling the World Trade Center. Everytime I walk on the boardwalk down in DUMBO there’s a sense of history as you look onto the Manhattan skyline.<\/p>\n
Personally – I was in 11th Grade AP English. My teacher was Dr. Neill Clark. We were talking about Hawthorne. Or maybe Emerson. It was a double-block period (a Tuesday), and during the break someone had noticed in the Fish Bowl (maybe Trey; maybe Reed?) that a plane had crashed into one of the towers. Dr. Clark turned on the TV behind us, and we kept having class.<\/p>\n
Maybe 5 minutes later, the second plane hit. And we watched it live. And the whole world seems like it changed full stop because of that moment.<\/p>\n
When I read things like – “Kids in high school today weren’t alive for 9\/11” it blows my mind. It still feels like the defining moment of my generation. And now there’s an entire generation for whom it’s a page in a history book.<\/p>\n
